THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF HERKIMER & ONEIDA COUNTIES, INC. WINS NATIONAL AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN COMMUNICATIONS

    The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc. (The Community Foundation) has been named a silver award winner for excellence in communications by the 2008 Wilmer Shields Rich Awards Program. Sponsored by the Council on Foundations, the awards program recognizes effective communications efforts to increase public awareness of foundations and public giving programs. The Community Foundation received the award for its special report Keeping the Promise. The award will be presented at “Philanthropy’s Vision: A Leadership Summit,” in National Harbor, Maryland on Monday, May 5, 2008.

    Peggy O’Shea, president and CEO of The Community Foundation, said, “We are deeply honored that the Council on Foundations has recognized Keeping the Promise, which recounts the history of The Community Foundation and its dedication to Herkimer and Oneida counties. In reviewing our past, we have renewed our commitment to serve the region in new and exciting ways for generations to come.”

    Entries to the awards program included annual or biennial reports, magazines/periodicals, special reports, public information campaigns and websites; this year, more than 200 entries were submitted. Copies of Keeping the Promise are available at The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Inc., 1222 State Street, Utica and at each library in the Mid-York Library System.
