THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION & UNITED WAY PARTNER TO HOST NATIONAL NONPROFIT EXPERT,

SUSAN KENNY STEVENTS, Ph.D.

Workshop Open to all Local Nonprofit Management and Board Members

Utica, NY (October 3, 2008) - On October 21st, The Community Foundation and United Way will host a workshop titled, “Becoming Who You Are: A Lifecycles Approach to Nonprofit Capacity,” led by nationally recognized nonprofit expert, Susan Kenny Stevens, Ph.D. and open to all nonprofit executives and trustees.

“Our two organizations are pleased to work together in bringing Dr. Stevens to our community. We are confident that Dr. Stevens will share information that will resonate with all of our nonprofit partners. In quoting the speaker, ‘the beauty of the lifecycle application is that it works!,’ ” says Peggy O’Shea, President/CEO of The Community Foundation.

“Becoming Who You Are: A Lifecycles Approach to Nonprofit Capacity” offers nonprofit organizations a practical way to think about organizational capacity. Using seven lifecycle stages to describe the predictable challenges and opportunities nonprofits experience at each stage of development, this session will present concepts relevant to management and board members of nonprofits whether newly formed, emerging or mature.

Based on the widely popular book, Nonprofit Lifecycles, The Community Foundation and United Way welcome local nonprofit management and their board members to attend together and learn how to self-assess each respective organization’s management, governance, financial resources and administrative structures as the vital systems for their important mission and programs.

The Community Foundation and United Way will host Dr. Stevens’ workshop on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 from 8:30AM-12:30PM at the Radisson Hotel Utica Centre. The $75.00 registration fee includes two attendees from the same organization and one copy of the book, Nonprofit Lifecycles. Additional copies of the book will be available for $20.00. Registrations are due by Friday, October 17, 2008.

“We encourage any local nonprofit organization to attend,” says Phil Hayne, Executive Director of United Way of the Valley & Greater Utica Area. “This is a wonderful opportunity to enhance our nonprofit partnerships as we move towards the greater good for the Mohawk Valley together.”
