THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF HERKIMER & ONEIDA COUNTIES, INC. AWARDS MORE THAN $280,000

IN GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS

 

The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc. (The Community Foundation) has announced ten grants and two scholarship programs totaling $287,842 to organizations in Herkimer and Oneida Counties.

  • The Black River Canal Museum in Boonville will receive $20,000 to build a conference center.
  • GroWest will receive $97,500 to implement a food service training program for individuals with barriers to employment.
  • The Multicultural Association of Medical Interpreters of Central New York, Inc. (MAMI) will be awarded $30,000 to develop an interpreter training curriculum.
  • In order to complete a little league field at the Griffiss Business and Technology Park, the Rome Baseball Association will be granted $25,000.
  • Senior Network Health was awarded $2,000 to supply its “Pilot Your Future” program.
  • Serving Rome, Oneida, Sylvan Beach and New Hartford, the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley will receive a grant of $26,800 to expand and enhance its Center for the Creative Arts recording project.
  • The Youth Empowerment Project, Inc. was granted $24,850 for renovations to its building on Court Street in Utica.
  • A $6,982 grant was awarded to Sculpture Space to provide equipment for creating works of contemporary art.
  • The Utica Dispensary Fund will provide $5,855 for HealthFriends, Inc. and $5,855 for Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. so the programs can provide financial assistance for prescription medication and medical care, respectively.
  • Herkimer County Community College will receive $3,000 and deserving students in the Young Scholars Program will share $40,000 in scholarship monies to provide financial support for higher education.

The Community Foundation has been a force for improving lives and promoting philanthropy throughout Herkimer and Oneida counties since 1952. The Foundation has made more than 3,800 grants totaling over $26.8 million in support of causes ranging from education to health care, the arts to the environment. Grants are generated by the more than 240 funds that comprise The Foundation’s endowment, established and advanced by area individuals and families.
