BULL AND JULIAN ELECTED TO COMMUNITY FOUNDATION BOARD, KAHLER RE-ELECTED CHAIR, HANNA RECOGNIZED FOR SERVICE, NINE NAMED TRUSTEES EMERITI

 

Lauren E. (Larry) Bull of Herkimer, CEO of Bull Brothers, Inc., and the Hon. Robert F. Julian, Esq. of Utica, New York State Supreme Court Justice, were elected to the board of trustees of The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties at the organization’s 2006 annual meeting held today (Tuesday, May 2) at the Yahundasis Golf Club in New Hartford.

              Also at the meeting, Camille T. Kahler of Rome, partner in the law firm of Saunders, Kahler, Amoroso & Locke LLP, was re-elected board chair and nine past board members were designated trustees emeriti, recognizing the length and impact of the service they rendered.

              Richard L. Hanna of Barneveld and Cooperstown retired from the board and was recognized for 10 years of service, which included two as board chair.

              In addition, the following officers were re-elected: John J. Livingston of New Hartford as chair-elect and Timothy D. Foley of Old Forge as secretary-treasurer.

              Also returning to the board were: George F. Aney of Herkimer, Milton J. Bloch of Clinton, Don Carbone of Boonville, Rudy D’Amico of Marcy, Harrison Hummel III of Mohawk, Georgiana Roberts Ide of New Hartford, Linda Macartney of Clinton, Theodore C. Max M.D. of Holland Patent, Albert Mazloom of Utica, Mary F. Morse of Ilion, Anthony C. Paolozzi of Whitesboro, Faye Short of Utica, Sheila Smith of New Hartford, William R. Stevens of Rome and Richard Zick of Rome.

              Bull’s election marks a return to the board for him. He was a trustee of the Foundation from 1995 through 2004, serving as vice president from 1997 to 1999, secretary/treasurer from 2001 until 2004 and co-chair of the grants committee from 2000 through 2004.            

              Named trustees emeriti were:

              Mary Griffith, of Rome, a trustee from 1992 through 2003, who co-chaired the development committee and was a long-time member of the grants committee;

              Joseph H. Hobika Sr., Esq., whose decade of service on the board from 1994 through 2004 included serving as secretary from 1996 to 1999 and chairing the governance committee;

              Dwight E. Vicks, Jr., who was a member of the board from 1982 through 1999, including president from 1992 to 1994. Also a member of the executive committee, he is president of Vicks Lithograph & Printing Corporation.

              Named trustees emeriti posthumously were:

              Rosamond G. Childs, who served on the board from 1954 until 1968 and was the Foundation’s first and largest benefactor;

              Watson Lowery, who served on the Foundation’s board from 1962 to 1982, including many years on the investment committee. He was president of Lowery Brothers, Inc. and Watson White Realty Corporation;

              Harold C. Moore, a board member from 1981 until 1998, who was a major fund raiser for the Foundation as well as a member of its grants and investment committees. He was senior investment manager for Marine Midland Bank;

              James E. Raymonda, a trustee from 1984 through 1998 and treasurer from 1984 to 1996. He chaired the administrative committee and served on the ad hoc committee on government efficiency. He was executive vice president and a director of the former Norstar Bank;

              Roy V. Van Denbergh, one of the Foundation’s original board members, who served from 1952 to 1972 including as president from 1957 to 1965. He was president of the Savings Bank of Utica;

              Addison M. White, who was a trustee of the Foundation for 34 years, from 1958 until 1992, serving as president and CEO from 1966 to 1991. He was also president of the Savings Bank of Utica.         

              The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties has been a force for improving lives and promoting philanthropy throughout the two counties since 1952. Since that time, the Foundation has made more than 3,100 grants

totaling over $23 million in support of causes ranging from education to health care, the arts to the environment. Grants are generated by the more than 200 funds that comprise the Foundation’s endowment, established and advanced by area individuals and families.
