THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF HERKIMER & ONEIDA COUNTIES, INC. AWARDS MORE THAN $197,000 IN GRANTS

UTICA, NY – The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc. (The Community Foundation) is pleased to announce 16 grants totaling $197,175 to organizations in Herkimer and Oneida counties.

  • Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. received $10,000 to upgrade their computer technology.
  • WCNY TV/24 received $10,000 to aid in the conversion to digital radio broadcasting.
  • The Little Falls Historical Society was awarded $4,000 to print a second edition of its history book after the first edition sold out.
  • To preserve the Goodsell Memorial Home Museum’s A. Richard Cohen map collection, the Town of Webb Historical Association was granted $7,821.
  • St. Joseph and St. Patrick’s Church was awarded $9,899 to purchase a walk-in freezer for Mother Marianne’s West Side Kitchen.
  • The Frankfort Hill Historical Society received a grant of $9,513 to restore a historic one-room schoolhouse.
  • The Institute of Technology Foundation at Utica/Rome, Inc. was granted $10,000 toward start-up costs for the First Lego League Project.
  • A $5,000 emergency grant was awarded to the Kirkland Art Center to assist with electrical repairs.
  • AIDS Community Resources, Inc. will receive $29,500 to purchase a Safety First outreach van to be used in Utica.
  • The Arc, Oneida-Lewis Chapter NYSARC will benefit from a $24,868 grant to replace the roof and kitchen cabinets in the dining hall at the Charles B. Wolkon Day Camp.
  • A grant in the amount of $9,459 will allow the Family Nurturing Center to purchase a minivan to be used for Evelyn’s House.
  • Herkimer County College Foundation was awarded $17,000 toward the renovation of the Johnson Science Lab.
  • A van to transport youth and other Johnson Park Center (JCTOD) participants will be purchased with a $21,935 grant.
  • The Oneida County Historical Society received $2,304 to purchase a photocopier that will be dedicated to genealogy research.
  • Utica Safe School Healthy Students Partnership, Inc. will receive $24,341 for renovations to Westminster Presbyterian Church, where the Underground Café is based.
  • Staff of The Peacemaker Program will be able to participate in training as part of their strategic plan due to a $1,535 grant.

The Community Foundation has been a force for improving lives and promoting philanthropy throughout Herkimer and Oneida counties since 1952. The Foundation has made more than 3,800 grants totaling over $26.8 million in support of causes ranging from education to health care, the arts to the environment. Grants are generated by the more than 240 funds that comprise The Foundation’s endowment, established and advanced by area individuals and families.
