CLINKHAMMER AND LAZOVIK SELECTED FOR COMMUNITY FOUNDATION SUMMER FELLOWSHIPS

Emily Clinkhammer of Cazenovia and Zachary Lazovik of Rome were selected as the 2006 Summer Fellows for Evaluation and Research at The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc.

Clinkhammer will be reviewing and analyzing approximately 50 grants awarded by The Foundation over the past three years to non-profit charitable organizations operating within Oneida and Herkimer Counties. The purpose of the fellowship, now in its sixth year, is to assist The Foundation in evaluating its grant-making effectiveness and to introduce young people to philanthropy.

Clinkhammer is a May 2006 graduate of Hamilton College where she majored in mathematics and women’s studies and is a 2002 graduate of Cazenovia Junior/Senior High School. At Hamilton College, she was the 2006 Scholar Athlete Award winner for the swimming and diving team, of which she was the captain. She was also the recipient of the Paul S. Langa prize scholarship for 2006 recognizing her excellence in athletics and leadership. She was on the Dean’s List for spring and fall semesters in 2005 and was a 2005 honorable mention in All-American for diving.

Zachary Lazovik of Rome has completed his junior year at Union College where he is majoring in political science. He was ranked fourth in his 2003 class at Rome Free Academy.

Lazovik will be compiling The Foundation’s history and reviewing the impact of grants over its 54-year history, including the benefits to the community at large.

He recently completed a political science internship in Washington, DC with Americans United for the Separation of Church and State. At Union College, he is active in a community service house, editor of an arts and literary magazine and a member of the student forum. This spring he received the Delphic Honor Society award for contributions to the campus community and the Calvin G. Schmidt (1951) prize for the junior selected by the student forum who contributed the most to the development and improvement of student life at Union College.

The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties has been a force for improving lives and promoting philanthropy throughout the two counties since 1952. Since that time, the Foundation has made more than 3,100 grants totaling over $23 million in support of causes ranging from education to health care, the arts to the environment. Grants are generated by the more than 200 funds that comprise the Foundation’s endowment, established and advanced by area individuals and families.
