Applying For A Community Grant

"It is our goal to empower individuals and make a difference."

The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc. makes grants to ideas and projects that are the top priority for a nonprofit organization. The Foundation considers projects and programs that have potential for making a long-lasting impact upon and a significant difference to people in our two-county region.

Organizations located in either Herkimer or Oneida counties, or that can demonstrate significant benefit to residents of these counties, are encouraged to share their creative and innovative projects with The Community Foundation.

The first step in the grant application process is contacting a program officer.

Submitting a Proposal
Organizations must contact The Community Foundation program officers before submitting a grant proposal. Call us at 315.735.8212 and ask to speak with a program officer.

The Community Foundation accepts requests on an ongoing basis. A grants committee - representing each of the two counties served by The Community Foundation - meets as needed with Foundation staff to discuss proposals and to make funding decisions. Applicants are informed about funding decisions in writing.

Immediate Response
The Foundation staff may recommend certain requests for more immediate action. These requests will fall into one of two categories: projects with modest budgets and requests for emergency funding. Emergency requests describe unforeseen events and situations where immediate action is necessary to stave off detriment to a significant number of people.

Applying For A Grant From Component Funds

The vast majority of The Community Foundation’s funds do not accept separate applications for support, as grantmaking is either incorporated into The Foundation’s competitive discretionary grants or predetermined by a specific fund purpose (such as an annual scholarship award).  However, there are a small number of Community Foundation funds to which grantseekers may apply directly to. Each of these funds has a unique interest, a competitive application process and may fund projects only in a particular geographic area.
