For Donor-Advised Fund Holders
Donor-advisors are a unique group of individuals, families and corporations who have decided to open a fund at The Community Foundation through which their charitable giving to not-for-profit organizations and investments in community causes and solutions is facilitated. We at The Foundation value your partnership and believe that through assisting our donor-advisors, we will advance many charitable interests throughout the community.
What is a Donor-Advised Fund? A donor-advised fund is an attractive fund for individuals or families who have broad philanthropic interests and make substantial, tax-deductible gifts regularly. Donors actively participate in grantmaking by recommending what charities shall benefit from the fund. The assets wholly belong to the Foundation and the recommendations are not binding, but the Foundation makes every effort to honor the request and provides services to protect the donor by making sure the charity is worthy and above-board. This fund is appealing as an alternative to the creation of a private foundation, since we do all the administrative paperwork, including tax, legal and accounting matters. It can also promote philanthropy as a family value by involving children in the recommendation process.
On these pages, you will find resources and forms that donor-advisors may use, as well as information about upcoming events that The Foundation has planned for donor-advisors. Please feel free to browse this page and its links, and contact The Community Foundation with any questions.
If you are not a donor-advised fund holder at this time and would like to learn more about opening a fund, please contact Elayne Johnson, director of donor services.
