F. EUGENE ROMANO TO RECEIVE AWARD FROM THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF HERKIMER & ONEIDA COUNTIES, INC.
The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc. is pleased to announce that Mr. F. Eugene Romano will receive its annual Rosamond Childs Award for Community Philanthropy. This award is given to an individual who demonstrates the philanthropic nature and community spirit exemplified by Rosamond G. Childs, The Foundation’s first and largest benefactor.
Romano, an area native and graduate of Hamilton College, is currently the president of Pacemaker-Millar Steel & Industrial Supply Company. Peggy O’Shea, president & CEO of The Community Foundation, said, “Mr. Romano’s support of organizations serving the residents of Herkimer and Oneida counties simply cannot be overstated. If you have been treated at a local hospital, attended an event at the Stanley, or checked a book out of the Mid-York Library System, you have been touched by his philanthropy. His guidance and experience as an advisor to not-for-profit organizations is invaluable as they progress and offer ever-improved programs and services. The bottom line is that Mr. Romano loves this community and cares deeply for the people who live here.”
F. Eugene Romano has also been awarded honorary degrees from Hamilton College and Utica College and was the recipient of both the Oneida County Historical Society’s Richard Couper Living Legend Award and the Utica Boys and Girls Club’s Living Legend Award. In 1995, he established the Jeanne Louise Ulrich Romano Memorial Scholarship Fund at The Community Foundation, which provides college scholarships to local business management students.
F. Eugene Romano will be honored at The Community Foundation’s Celebration of Philanthropy on May 7.
